It was a great weekend. A few of us went on a bikeride down forest service roads and found this great clearing. We also found skylight cave. Josh and I got to cook most of the meals. We all helped make hamburgers the first night.

3 month Adjustable ARM

Saturday I had the amazing opportunity to try kite surfing with a practice kite. Something I have wanted to try for about 4-6months now.
It was a blast. I got a little air and was having a good time.
Then I flew 20feet forward and landed on my right shoulder. Yup it's broken. Snapped the humerus across the ball joint. Yay Oxycodone and Vicodin!

I would type the whole story but I'm high right now on pain killers.
Here is the arm. Maybe someone will feel like leaving a blow by blow in the comments...

Opal Creek

I love Oregon! Opal creek in amazingly isolated, alive, and you can pop your tent anywhere!
I went out Thursday and got there around 2pm. All the day hikers where leaving just as I was on my hike in. So I had the place to myself. It's so good to get away from cell phones, e-mail, traffic noise and just be. Be in nature with God. It was a much needed time of rest. Something I need to do more often. Ok enough blabbering here are the pictures. They are no Blaine Franger shots but they will have to do.

This last one is where I camped for the evening. Falling asleep to the sounds of the stream was perfect after hiking until I was exhausted. The water was crystal clear and tasted great, after boiling of course. Camping trip with sister to be posted shortly.

Stupid Squirrel

Heather and I went to the Portland Rose Garden to see the roses. But before I could get out of the car I was met by the SGF (Squirrel Greeting Force). Here is our new friend.

Heather said I should take a pic of this little guy. I pulled out the camera and he struck a pose!

I would show you the roses but we went too late and they where not that impressive....

Stripping Lessons

SoOoOoO I thought it would be fun to strip the ugly Starbucks green off my cabinets and stain them a nice natural wood color....

Hint #1 this is a BAD idea: Use in well ventilated area and keep small animals (cats) out of the room while using product!Hint #2: Exploding cans

Hint #3: I have a lot of cabinets

This is taking sooo long, and it's hard work to. If anyone ever asks hey you want to strip paint... just say no

I have a long long way to go. More updates soon. Hopefully I will have a breakthrough with tools or stripping toxins... or *magic stripping gnomes that come out of the cupboards at night and peel the paint off* because this little plastic scraper is not cutting it.
Sorry I know it's a picture of a cat. This stupid cat sat in front of the T.V. like this for 2 hours watching a movie!

This is one wing of an observatory for students and research. Can't remember which Island.

Cutest hula girl on any Island. We where driving and saw this little pull out/path in the bushes. We hiked down to this awesome little spot.

It was way cooler in person. There where waves crashing up just behind us. The lava rock behind the camera had shards of glass in it from when the lava melted the sand!!!

Hawaii

Heather (my lil sister) and I went to Hawaii! It's been a few months. I can't remember the order of the pictures but here are a few highlights.

The Boat: It was huge, and crowded with fat, lazy, old, american. But there where great sunsets! The food wasn't bad either.

On Mauii and Oahu we rented a car and took a drive around the island. The coast is so amazing. We found this great hippy village on the drive north on Oahu, they had a live food resteraunt uhh Green Lotus I think it was called. Fresh juice, tea, and food that Heather didn't like. Anyways here are some pictures from the coastal drive of Mauii and Oahu. nope I don't remember which one is Mauii. They are small because I had to put all of them in here. Click on the picture and it will load a larger image.

So, we got the the rental car company and they where sold out of the little tiny very small compact economy car we had reserved. The only thing they had left was a convertable! The lady actually asked us if we would "mind upgrading"! It's took about 3 seconds for the shock to settle but we both decided to go with the convertable.
On Mauii we stopped at one of these little side of the road stands. They where selling sugar cane juice! Oh it was sooo sweat and sooo good. Heather and I where on a sugar rush for the rest of the drive!

FLOWERS MMMM can you smell the flowers? They where everywhere. The airports had people with carts full of flowers on strings that you hang around your neck. They smelled so good.

Not so flowery.

We took a tour of this coffee farm in Kona. Kona Joe's, he is from California and took the idea of growing wine grapes on trellis and used it for coffee. Joe has won tons of ribbons for his coffee and even had his techniques pattented. Here is the farm.

We did so much in just one week. These pictures really are just a highlight. I will have to make another post of some of the fun random pictures. It was great finally geting to spend some time with my lil sister.

Jen, Kc, and I went camping overnight at Eagle Creek!

I got a new tent for the trip because my other one was stolen....

Set the thing up with no instructions in less then 10min!

Over the river, and through the woods....

We finally made it to the top! Cool view of the Dam and the gorge.

Jen had way too much energy all weekend! The hike back down was fun too! we stopped took some pictures and smelled the flowers.

Then I made chicken and herb rice ala foil in camp fire.... Not bad

Good times we will have to do it again next summer you two.

Beach Trip

Well I know it's been a while. I have been busy working a lot of overtime. I finally had a weekend off! So I went to the beach with KC. Here are the pics. Not too exciting. It was more of a relaxing trip.

This is the Devil's Punchbowl. It was a cave that has been hollowed out by the sea over the years. Now when the tide comes in water comes rushing in through the hole with so much force that the waves splash into the side of the cave and get everyone looking down at it wet! Unfortunatly we where there at low tide.

We had a really hard time finding a room. There was a kite festival in town and almost all the rooms where booked! When at the beach do as the beachers do and fly a kite! There was a sweet little kite shop right on the beach. I stopped to go in and KC thought I was crazy. "Dude that's a 'kite' shop" . I got a way cool stunt kite. It onnly took a few minutes to get the hang of it. That thing flies so fast. It dives towards the ground and then with a sharp pull on the right cord it swirls around and heads back up. I think KC had more fun then I did flying the "kite".

The weekend consisted of lazy drives down the oregon coast stopping for cool lookout points, kite shops, and a good beach for kite flying. You would be amazed at how many people gater at the lookout points when there is a stunt kite down on the beach!

I don't know what the format should be. So, help me out.

5 Minute meals: prep in 5 minutes or less (I can do 1 minute sections of video)
One pot cooking: uh-yeah everything cooked in one pot
Cooking for Bachelors: Fast and Easy meals with instructions and shopping directions Bachelors can understand
Desserts: my favorite thing to cook, but may be a bit overdone

Visit Home Feb 06

My family gave me a plane ticket to visit home over Presidents Day weekend!
We stopped by Citrus Heights on Saturday and had breakfast with Lydia.

No she didn't eat too much beakfast.... She is PREGNANT!!!!

Much to the ammusement of my Oregonian friends my family and I drove to Walmart in our SUV and then went to fast food for dinner!

Rememeber the where's Waldo books. This is the where's Heather picture.

As soon as she saw the camera she hid behind dad.... I'll get her next time!

And now maybe the most amazing part of the trip Food-4-Less
Yes those are Guacamolies for only 50 cents each!

Well all in all it was a great trip home. I got sick the day I got there. But still had a great time visiting with family and friends.

Yu is a way cool dude! Lindsey introduced Colin and I to him in Japan! Now Yu is going to do the study abroad program with PSU. I keep trying to talk him into staying with me while he is here but I live 45min by bus from PSU......Maybe I should move?

Sushi and Such

My good friends Colin and Tyler came for a visit. Well actually they where here for the 3 day weekend.

We took a trip to the Japanese food store Saturday and got some FRESH fish to make sushi.

Cat Toy Project

Title: The value to time enjoyed phenomenon of cat toy
Abstract: Project is still being carried an abstract can not be derived at this time

Introduction:
The subject "kitty" was left alone for 2-4 hour periods. As are many other felines in the United States. With further research in the matter it can easily be proven that cat entertainment is not only a national issue but a global emergency. Thus a method was needed to determine the entertainment value to cost ratio of cat toys solving the worlds feline boredom epidemic.

Methods:
methodology for this project was rather simple although data collection and analysis was subjective and a standard will need to be developed to collect quantitative information.
A "toy" (a general term used to define any object which seems to hold the attention of the subject for more then 2-3 minutes.) was introduced to the subject in a familiar neutral setting. The subject and the toy were observed with and without outside stimulation. If interest seemed to dissipate earlier then expected the toy would be manipulated by the observer for several seconds.
Toys were classified using the following standards: Cost, Play Time, Energy consumption by cat, Energy consumption by owner

Results:
Object One: Expended Bathroom Tissue Roll Containing Cat Treats (classified as Favorite Toy)
Cost: Free
Divided by the total cost of a package of Bathroom Tissue the cost of the roll could not be determined due to the margin of error in measuring tools. The treats were donated to the project by a local veterinary clinic cost was undetermined.

Energy consumed by owner: Minimal
Treats were inserted into tube the tube was then sealed and shaken.

Energy consumed by cat: Moderate
the toy was chased around play area at a slow rate

Play Time: 5-10 minutes
The toy was enjoyed for 5-10 minute periods and continues to hold that cats attention when new treats are added.

Experimentation is still being carried out results will be posted as data is processed.

Fall

The climate in Bend is DRY. So the leaves are dry. Not wet and slimy like in Portland.This makes for excellent leaf romping conditions!

How do you find your friends when they say they will meet you in the park?
Look under the largest pile of leaves you can find!

We spent hours playing with the little leaf people (LLP)

This is a real live LLP! The myth is true they do actually sprout up out of the leaves.

Everyone had a great time.... Except for Tyler he had to work :(
